God bless America

God bless America. In the latest few weeks I heard that wish to conclude most of the speeches of the candidates for the presidency and vice-chair of the United States, and I wondered "which God?" I mean, USA is the country of Freedom, the country of the Founding Fathers, the country of the Declaration of Independence. So the Freedom of Religion should be a fundamental value for that nation. But when Sarah Palin, for example, ends her speech by "God bless America", which god she is referring to? Yahweh? Allah? The God of Christians? And why should we focus only on monotheistic religions? What about Brahman, Shiva, and Vishnu? So, why not "Gods bless America"? And what about Buddhism or Pantheism?

Probably USA people are used to such a way to end a speech, especially a political one, but what does it really mean? USA is considered a multicultural and multi-ethnic country, and therefore there are many religions in USA based on completely different assumptions. Isn’t such a wish in contrast with that fundamental characteristic of USA? Well, in my opinion, some inconsistency does exist.
